The Gerard Koskovich papers document his work as an activist, graphic designer, historian, journalist, and rare book dealer. Koskovich is a founding member of the GLBT Historical Society and has been active as a queer community organizer in the Bay Area and in France since 1979. The collection includes his interview with poet and translator Édouard Roditi, journalism,poetry and writings on queer history; materials related to queer activism, including protests against the Castro Sweep and other incidents of police misconduct; materials related to antiquarian book dealing; photographs; and personalia. There are also significant materials related to Queer Nation San Francisco, including flyers and handbills; meeting agendas and proposals; the “Queer and Out” booklet; and materials related to the following focus groups: Doris Squash, GHOST, Hi Mom, Hip Hop, LABIA, Queer Planet, Queer Week Media Committee, QUID, Shop, SQUELCH, Ubiquitous and United Colors. There are also a stencil, original posters and artwork, including a Proper Conduct poster by Fernando Aguayo-Garcia. This collection also includes various artifacts and ephemera from LGBTQ events and venues, including a Castro Theatre orchestra seat handle and rubble from the demolition of the interior of Paradise Lounge and Febe’s.
