Biographical / Historical
The Board of Trustees acts as the governing body of the University of San Diego. The board meets quarterly each school year
and holds special meetings as necessitated by important issues or events. The Board of Trustees records from 1950 through
May 1972 centered on the San Diego College for Men and the School of Law, referred to as the University of San Diego in official
documents. The San Diego College for Women maintained a separate Board of Trustees through May 1972. The Board of Trustees
was known as the Board of Regents from August 1957 through September 1962, then reverted to the Board of Trustees in April
1968 after an almost six-year gap in meeting records. A new Board of Trustees debuted in June 1972 following the merger of
the San Diego College for Women with the San Diego College for Men and School of Law to become the modern-day iteration of
the University of San Diego.
As of 2022, the Board of Trustees consists of 31 members and 4 officers. The number of board committees grew from the 1960s
through the 2000s but shrunk from 2012 through the present. The 10 current Board of Trustees committees are: Executive, Academic
Affairs, Athletics, Audit, Finance, Investment, Student Affairs, Trustees, Executive Compensation, and Advancement.
