Abstract:
Kathryn Waite (nÊe Wilson) was born in 1901 and died in 1998. She and her husband Harry Edgar Waite (1885-1963) lived in the City of San Fernando. She worked on the nursing staff at Veterans Administration Hospital in Sylmar and was a member of the San Fernando Valley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her husband Harry worked as the San Fernando City Engineer. The Photograph Album depicts Harry's work as Chief of the Survey Party for the California State Survey of Ridge Route to Bakersfield. The "Ridge Route" is also known as the Castaic-Tejon Route, and refers to the segment of US Route 99 from Los Angeles north to Bakersfield. Photographs in the album depict Newhall Pass, initially named Fremont Pass, a camp at Humes, cars driving through the Newhall Tunnel, and surveying crews.
