Scope and content:

The Yoneguma Takahashi Photo Album (1900-1940) contains one photo album compiled by Shiego "Johnny" Takahashi, Yoneguma Takahashi's younger brother. It includes family portraits, Japanese military photographs of young men, as well as travel photographs from China and Korea. It also contains images of Yoneguma Takahashi's fruit stand in San Pedro and images of Shiego in Palos Verdes.

Biographical / historical:

Youneguma Takahashi was born to Shigeta and Ema Takahashi on November 24, 1909. He lived in California till his family moved back to Japan. Takahashi returned to the United States and owned a fruit and vegetable stand in San Pedro from 1938-1939. His younger brother, Shiego Takahashi (1917-2003), was a clerk at the stand. During World War II, Yoneguma's wife and children and Shiego were forcibly removed to the Poston incarceration camp in 1942. After the war, Yoneguma's family moved to Garden Grove, California, while Shiego moved to Chicago, Illinois. Shiego eventually moved back to Garden Grove.
