Crew Lists and documents (SAFR 14044, HDC 50) collection is comprised of crew lists from different vessels arriving at San Francisco for the Gold Rush in 1851, four hospital returns, a document from the Treasury Department, a Custom House document, an unclaimed merchandise document, and a document with ship measurements from the Port of San Francisco. These documents span the years 1851-1858. This collection has been processed to the collection level and is open for use without restrictions.
The crew members lists contains the vessels name, where it came from before entering port, and the name of the master. Each crew member on board at that time is listed along with how long he was employed. The sale of unclaimed merchandise document lists each item and price it was sold for, dated 1856. The document from the Port of San Francisco is a surveyors report to description and measurements of a new vessel dated 1853. New York Custom House document dated 1858 regarding consigned merchandise and advising it be withheld for 60 days. Treasury Department dated 1857 regarding warehouse bonds were received. Four Hospital Return documents with lists of seaman's names and how much money was retained from their pay.
