Background
- Scope and content:
-
This artificial collection contains photo albums that document women and men in predominantly homosocial settings. One album portrays one portion (circa 1900-1920) of the life of an unknown woman and her friends. Numerous photos of women in men's clothing, generally in a humorous vein. Nothing suggests these people were homosexual but it does document casual same-sex intimacy and cross-dressing common to this period. The other album contains photos from the San Francisco Bay Area and the California coast, circa 1940s. There are snapshots of homes, families and male friends hanging out together. These also document same-sex intimacy. GSSO Linked Terms: http://purl.obolibrary.org/obo/GSSO_008194
