    Historical Note

Frontiers: A Journal of Women Studies began publication in 1975. The original Editorial Collective chose the title to symbolize the new territories of feminist scholarship and accomplishment the journal planned to explore. Furthermore, the word sounded "western," appropriate for a journal published in Colorado. Since 1975, however, understandings of frontiers have changed. What we now mean by "frontiers" are zones of interaction between two or more different cultures. Following Gloria Anzaldua, we revision frontiers from boundary to borderlands, a concept especially suitable to our interdisciplinary and multicultural feminist purpose.
Taken from statement in 1999 Frontiers: A Journal of Women Studies, Vol. 20, No. 1
