Scope and content:

Two files of documents for line improvements on tracks in Alhambra and Duarte, California. The files include correspondence, blueprints, bills of sale, work orders, and other document types.

Biographical / historical:

The Southern Pacific Railroad was created in 1865 as a landholding and railroad company; it later acquired the Central Pacific Railroad and several other smaller railroad companies throughout the United States. The company changed its name to the Southern Pacific Company, and in 1969, the Southern Pacific Transportation Company was established and took over the Southern Pacific Company.
