Background

Scope and content:

The collection is made up of items that track Bennett's life through the middle portion of the twentieth century and his time with Grant Union High School, the military, civilian employment and his marriage. His diploma from Grant Union and a 1940 Del Pasado cover his academics. His time in the military is covered by way of honorable discharge papers and veteran status documents. His McClellan experience is acknowledged by way of a certificate that recognizes 25 years of service to the United States Air Force as well as a group photograph of himself and colleagues being recognized by base leadership.

Biographical / historical:

Carroll Allen Bennett was born on June 24, 1921, in Chico, California. In 1940, he graduated from Sacramento County's Grant Union High School and went to work for Shell Oil as a service station attendant. With the outbreak of war, he enlisted in the United States Army and served as an airplane engine mechanic at Davis-Monthan Field in Tucson, Arizona. After honorable discharge, Bennett returned to Sacramento, where he would serve as an aircraft worker and painter at McClellan Air Force Base for several years. He married Miss Agnes LeBarr in January 1951. Bennett passed away in Sacramento in 1982.
