Collection consists of a ledger which documents the name of the patient and/or family member, diagnosis, medications or treatments
prescribed and the charges for the visit. For example, "Monday, November 1st 1847, #11 Allen Johns visit wife delivering infant
and placenta" while on "Monday, May 1, 1848, #7 Capt. Henry Sterret visit Henrietta at night, extracting tooth
opium 1 [ounce]." The physician averaged approximately 37 visits per day. Also includes 1 loose leaf documenting the purchases
and wages for/by Miss Mary Craver, Susan Bishop and Lucy Mayfield including dry goods, butter, coffee, shoes, stockings, aprons,
a shawl, yarn, and ribbon. Manuscript notes on rear paste-down include "Memorandum of clothes which Bill had on first of January
1849...1pr Boots half worn and 1 waist coat;" and "Wm. Cupp turned cow in pasture June 3rd 1856 in 2 months;" among others.
Antiquarian bookdealer identifies the provenance of this manuscript as Virginia.
