Wilder Mayo Bentley, commonly known as Wilder Bentley the Younger or Wilder Bentley Jr., was born in 1928 in Oklahoma City and was the son of Harvey Wilder Bentley, the founder of Archetype Press.
He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1951 and, in 1959, created the Bread & Wine Press in San Francisco. During his career he was a printmaker, painter, craftsman, and author. His works include wood and copper engravings, watercolors, and other graphic formats.
Bentley Jr. died in 2018 in Sebastopol, California.
Edwin H. Carpenter was born on August 21, 1915, in Burlington, Iowa to Edwin H. and Cora (Francis) Carpenter. He graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a bachelor's degree in 1937, a master's degree in 1939, and a doctorate in 1949 and earned a library science degree from the University of Southern California in 1950. During World War II, he served in the United States Army in North Africa, the Mediterranean, and across Europe.
He worked at the Huntington Library as a rare book reading room attendant (1946), publications secretary (1950-1953), bibliographer (1960-1973), and lecturer. He died in 1995 in Los Angeles.
