The collection contains materials related to Fred C. Kennedy’s education and career. Formats include manuscripts, typescripts, print works, clippings, ephemeral, and pamphlets. Dates range from 1950s-1990. Materials include syllabi, notes, and papers from studies at Pasadena Nazarene College, San Francisco Theological Seminary and Austen Theological Presbyterian Seminary. Study materials address youth and adult-focused church development and Christian education. Materials also include draft and bound copies of his published work, “Knowledge of God and of Ourselves,” as well as Presbyterian pamphlets.

Biographical / historical:

The Reverend Fred C. Kennedy was born in Houston, Texas in 1931. Dr. Kennedy and his first wife Eleanor founded Woodforest Presbyterian Church, Houston, Texas, in 1959. He also published “The Knowledge of God and of Ourselves” from sermons prepared for the Woodforest Presbyterian Church congregation. Dr. Kennedy served his Presbytery as chairperson for Evangelism and Enlistment, and Candidates Committee for the gospel ministry. He later served as chairperson for New Church Development and was a member of Synod’s Christian Education Committee. He taught English at El Sereno Junior High School, Los Angeles, California from 1977 until his retirement.
