Background
- Scope and content:
-
The Everett Greenbaum papers consist of screenplays, photographs, correspondence, and other material created by the television and film writer Everett Greenbaum (1919-1999). The material in the collection was created circa 1950 to 1990. The collection includes hardbound and annotated screenplays, treatments, and indexes for a wide range of Greenbaum's projects, including drafts for original works such as The Goldenberg Who Couldn't Dance and A Dollar of My own, as well as unproduced television pilots. Notably, the collection features material from several landmark series that Greenbaum co-wrote, including The Andy Griffith Show, M*A*S*H, and Mister Peepers, as well as his collaborations on feature films, such as Return to Mayberry (1986). The collection holds drafts for these projects in various forms, including preliminary plot outlines and paste-ups. Many of the earlier works in the collection were co-written by Jim Fritzell (1920-1979).
Beyond his television and film writing, the papers also document Greenbaum's broader professional and personal life through correspondence, contracts, event programs, and photographs. Awards and honors, including memorabilia from various ceremonies, reflect Greenbaum's professional achievements. Other types of material, such as audio recordings of radio interviews, ephemera, and newspaper clippings, along with items related to friend and collaborator Gary Burghoff, are also included in the collection.
