Includes real estate transaction documents; documents regarding the real estate work of Henry J. Martens in Kern County, California; student and teacher lesson books belonging to both Dietrich and Lena Claassen; minute books of Mennonite school literary societies in Oklahoma; and other miscellaneous notebooks.

Biographical / historical:

Dietrich J. and Lena Claassen were school teachers in Kansas and Oklahoma before moving to Kern County, California, in 1909, as part of the unsuccessful Martensdale settlement. They became members of the Rosedale Mennonite Brethren Church in Bakersfield, and lived in Kern County until their respective deaths in 1952 and 1953.
