Background
- Scope and content:
-
Deeds, wills, legal papers, military papers (Civil War), personal correspondence, genealogies, bills and receipts of the John and Lydia Hudson family. John Hudson (1808-1897) and Lydia Elvira (Jones) Hudson (1820-1897) brought their family to Escondido Valley in San Diego County, California in 1886. There are materials showing the family's involvement with the Methodist church (including a manuscript, "The Gleamer, vol. 1 no. 3," a Sunday school paper); several obituaries (1908,1909) about Erma Hudson, the daughter of Omar and Cora Hudson and the granddaughter of John and Lydia; and a lengthy obituary for John and Lydia Hudson (Feb. 1897) which provides a great deal of information about the Hudson family.
