Scope and content:

This collection contains journals with notes, ideas for poems, and Hirschman's inner thoughts; poetry manuscripts; artwork; and correspondence. There is an assortment of correspondence on subjects including research for his poetry, interest in other's poems, and letters from publishing companies. The collection also includes artwork and sketches by Hirschman, some of which is based on Japanese characters and his poetry. Jack Hirschman's poetry draws on his political and social activism, touching on topics of politics, love, and death with allusions to historical people and events.

Processing of the Jack Hirschman papers was completed by undergraduate students from the University of California, Riverside as part of the Special Collections & University Archives Backlog Processing Project started in 2015.
