Background

Scope and content:

Three series. Series I: Newspapers, 1806-1852, reporting on Jones's career and especially Jones', believing that the United States and Mexico were at war, mistaken seizure of Monterey on October 20, 1842, and his formal apology to the Mexican government of California. Series II is an album of newspaper clippings pertaining to the Commodore Thomas ap Catesby Jones Society with an article about Jones written by Ostermeier. Series III contains three small oil illustrations, by Ostermeier, of Jones' capture of Monterey.

Gift from the estate of Simeon L. Ostermeier in 2004.
