Description
The Kaye Briegel Chicano Pamphlets and Literature Collection (1961-1979; undated) contains three boxes of pamphlets, booklets, plays, poetry, books, comic books, children's books, essays, short stories, and anthologies regarding Chicano communities, movements, culture, and history. This collection is arranged alphabetically by title within material type. Collection material is in both English and Spanish.
Background
Kaye Briegel, who was a lecturer of history at the California State University Long Beach, primarily assembled this collection of Chicano materials. A majority of the material in this collection was collected while Briegel was working on her master's thesis at USC "The History of Political Organizations Among Mexican-Americans in Los Angeles Since the Second World War". Briegel graduated from USC in 1967. She also completed her PhD in history from USC in 1974 and her dissertation is entitled "Alianza Hispano-Americana, 1894-1965: A Mexican American fraternal insurance society" Briegel is also a long time volunteer of historical societies and organizations in Long Beach, California.
