Briegel graduated from USC in 1967. She also completed her PhD in history from USC in 1974 and her dissertation is entitled "Alianza Hispano-Americana, 1894-1965: A Mexican American fraternal insurance society" Briegel is also a long time volunteer of historical societies and organizations in Long Beach, California.
