Extent:: 3381 postcards relate to the Northwestern California region. About two thousand additional cards relate to other geographic regions.

Scope and content:: The postcard collection, especially those showing Northwestern California scenes, follow Tim McKay's lifelong interests in the natural world and in the ways that people and communities use their surroundings for livelihood and solace. McKay also saved/collected contemporary cards celebrating arts, events, and political causes for the Humboldt Bay region. These are incorporated into the History-Ephemera section of the main McKay Collection (2007.01). Additional portions of the collection remain unprocessed. These cover other geographic areas and novelty cards showing animals and flowers. The unprocessed portions are available for research by appointment.

Acquisition information:: When the Tim McKay Collection was gifted in 2007 the postcard collection that McKay had been amassing for the previous decade was included. A few binders holding postcards from Del Norte County and the Benicia, CA area were not included in the gift.
