Background
- Scope and content:
-
The Ralph Ahn papers consist of material created and collected by Ralph Ahn (1926-2022), who was a Korean American actor and co-founder of the Korean American Pioneer Council (KAPC). The collection consists of photographs, photograph albums, event programs and pamphlets relating to Korean American events, genealogical research material on the Ahn family, and other material. The collection also includes material on Ralph Ahn's father, Korean independence activist Dosan Ahn Chang Ho, including material created by the Dosan Memorial Committee, of which Ralph Ahn was a member and/or contributor. Ahn Chang Ho and his wife Helen Ahn were the first Koreans to legally immigrate to the United States as a married couple. Other Ahn family members documented in the Ralph Ahn papers include Helen Ahn, Philip Ahn, Susan Ahn, Wesley Ahn, and Ahn relatives living in North Korea. Lastly, the collection includes material relating to the Ahn Family House at USC, which is now an office of the USC Dornsife Korean Studies Institute that hosts academic programs for USC students and scholars.
