    Abstract: This collection contains material belonging to Ira Clark, an instructor at Pepperdine College Continuing Education Program who resided in Compton, California. A majority of the material in this collection relates to Clark's career as an educator and instructor such as syllabi; reports; instructional guides; and handbooks. Other items in this collection include photographs, magazines, and event programs.

    Biographical / Historical

    Ira Clark was a resident of Compton, California starting in 1957, and was married to Doretha Mae Clark, school nurse for the Compton Unified School District. They had two children- Theresa C. Clark, and Ira P. Clark II. Clark was an educator and substitute principal in Enterprise City School District; an instructor at Pepperdine College Continuing Education Programs teaching courses related to Administration and Organization; Financing and Public School; Supervision of Instruction and Curriculum, and taught a course entitled "American Negro History in the School Curriculum". Clark was also a member of the California-Teacher Association, and had a B.A. in Elementary Education with a minor in Physical Education (1956) and a M.A. in Administration and Supervision from Los Angeles State College (1960). In April 1969, Clark ran for Compton High School District [board], and in 1971, Clark was the vice president of the Compton Unified School District Board of Trustees.

    Scope and Contents

    The Ira Clark Collection (1951-1995; undated) contains 1.21 linear feet of material belonging to Ira Clark, an instructor at Pepperdine College Continuing Education Program who resided in Compton, California. Series One contains material related to Ira Clark's career as an instructor at Pepperdine College Continuing Education Programs including syllabi; material related to the Compton Unified School District such as syllabi, instructional guides, and reports; and reports, manuals, handbooks, and other documents related to teaching and education. Series Two contains material Clark collected such as magazines; and National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa Beta Phi Chapter Bal Des Amantes programs, as well as photographs that depict Ira Clark with students and possibly other educators or Compton Unified School District trustees; images taken at Mark Twain School; and images of Theresa [Clark] Wright and Doretha Clark.
