This collection contains material belonging to Ira Clark, an instructor at Pepperdine College Continuing Education Program
who resided in Compton, California. A majority of the material in this collection relates to Clark's career as an educator
and instructor such as syllabi; reports; instructional guides; and handbooks. Other items in this collection include photographs,
magazines, and event programs.
Background
Ira Clark was a resident of Compton, California starting in 1957, and was married to Doretha Mae Clark, school nurse for the
Compton Unified School District. They had two children- Theresa C. Clark, and Ira P. Clark II. Clark was an educator and substitute
principal in Enterprise City School District; an instructor at Pepperdine College Continuing Education Programs teaching courses
related to Administration and Organization; Financing and Public School; Supervision of Instruction and Curriculum, and taught
a course entitled "American Negro History in the School Curriculum". Clark was also a member of the California-Teacher Association,
and had a B.A. in Elementary Education with a minor in Physical Education (1956) and a M.A. in Administration and Supervision
from Los Angeles State College (1960). In April 1969, Clark ran for Compton High School District [board], and in 1971, Clark
was the vice president of the Compton Unified School District Board of Trustees.
