Scope and content:

The collection includes documents relating to local theaters that Tom Whittemore managed and general theater issues. Type of material includes correspondence, newspaper clippings, a radio script, two scrapbooks and photographs. There is also a 10-inch by 13-inch color photo of the interior of the Senator Theater.

Biographical / historical:

Tom Whittemore worked 37 years in the theater business. He first worked under T and D Jr. Enterprises, which was later bought by United Artist Theatre Circuit. Whittemore started as a manager for the State Theater in Auburn, California. He then worked as a city manager for the local chain of theaters in Butte County. For the last fifteen years of his career, from 1952 to 1967, he worked as district manager for the theaters chain in Chico.
