Abstract:
The collection consists of 117 photographs of Hollywood movie stars from the 1930s and early 1940s collected by a local resident, Roslyn Hall (1911-1993), while she worked as a newspaper reporter in Los Angeles. Most of the photographs are black and white. One is in color and a few are sepia toned.

5 boxes and 6 framed prints: Box 1 contains 18 black and white photographs approximately 8” x 9.5” Box 2 contains 36 black and white 10” x 13” photographs and 1 color 7.5” x 9.5” photograph Box 3 contains 37 black and white 10.5” x 13.5” photographs Box 4 contains 19 black and white photos in various sizes mounted in 16” x 20” matts Box 5 contains various newspaper clippings on Roslyn Hall and the collection and 14 postcard size reproductions 6 prints are framed in approx 17”x 21” black frames with white matting

Biographical / historical:

Local Pacific Grove resident Roslyn Hall donated the collection of Hollywood movie stars. She had collected them during her years working as a reporter in the Los Angeles area. The photographs were initially donated to the Monterey Peninsula College (MPC) Cinema/Video and Photography Department in 1980 where they were cleaned, mounted and matted by Frank Keillor, a professional photographer and part time instructor at MPC. The photos were displayed at the Pacific Grove Art Center in December 1981- January 1982. In 2001, the photographs were transferred to the MPC Library Archives and Special Collections. A portion of the photographs were on public display at the library from 2005 to approximately 2022.

Acquisition information:
The collection was donated to the Monterey Peninsula College, Cinema/Video and Photography Department in 1980 by Roslyn Hall and was transferred to the Monterey Peninsula College Library Archives and Special Collections in 2001.
Processing information:

The collection was initially curated by Chase Weaver, archivist and part time instructor in the Cinema/Video Department of Monterey Peninsula College and cleaned by Frank Keillor, a professional photographer and part time instructor at MPC. In July 2025, the collection was inventoried and a collection finding aid was created.
