Collection contains 250 color photographic prints of oblique aerials and street views of San Francisco, California in 1978. The aerials document all of San Francisco. The street views and neighborhood scenes include Fisherman's Wharf, Aquatic Park, Ghiradelli Square, Nob Hill, The Cannery, Chinatown, Pacific Heights, Laguna Honda and Golden Gate Park.

Photographer unidentified. There are only handwritten notations of roll and print number on backsides of photos.

Access and use

Restrictions:

The collection is open for research and available for use during San Francisco History Center hours. Photographs are available during Photo Desk hours. This collection must be requested at least 4 business days in advance of visit. The majority of the collection is stored onsite. Boxes 23, 27, 29/1, 29/2, 40, and 45-54 are stored at UCLA. Significant portions of the original film and sound footage found in Series 3 were restored by the UCLA Film and Television Archives, and are still maintained there. These boxes are noted in the container list. The library does not have equipment to review original film and sound footage found in Series 3. As these materials must be reviewed outside the library, access requires the approval of the City Archivist.

Terms of access:

All requests for permission to publish from photographs must be submitted in writing to the Photo Curator. Permission for publication is given on behalf of the San Francisco Public Library as the owner of the physical items.
