Background

Scope and content:

There are three issues of the two main local newspapers. The included issues are: The San Diego Union, January 1, 1969 commemorative issue for the 200th Anniversary, and issue of the Evening Tribune celebrating the landing on the Moon by Apollo, July 24, 1969, and the July 4, 1976 issue of the Evening Tribune. Other items in the Collection include: a one-inch bronze commemorative coin from the 200th Anniversary celebration, the Official Souvenir and Program Guide San Diego, 1969. A poster from the exhibition in Balboa Park on Treasures of the Soviet Union (1989), and a snow globe of San Diego with small well-known buildings of San Diego with the music from the song "By Sea, By Sea, By the Beautiful Sea." Due to size, the poster is housed in poster drawer 5, folder 5. Original finding aid noted poster was framed, as of 2024, poster is not framed.
