- Biographical / historical:

Allan Nevins was an American historian and journalist. From 1931 to 1958, he occupied the DeWitt Clinton Chair in American History at Columbia University. While at Columbia, he helped organize the Society of American Historians and established the Oral History Project at Columbia. During World War II, he was a special representative of the Office of War Information in Australia and New Zealand, and from 1945 to 1946 was chief public affairs officer for the American Embassy. From 1958 to 1969, he was senior research associate at the Huntington Library.
