Biographical / Historical
John Cacavas (1930-2014) was an American composer, conductor, and arranger who wrote music for many CBS programs including
Kojak (1973-1978),
Amy Prentiss (1974), and
ABC Weekend Specials (1979-1983). Cacavas was nominated for Emmys for his music for
Kojak in 1976, and for the police drama
Eischied in 1979.
Also an author, Cavacas wrote two instructional books,
Music Arranging and Orchestration (1985) and
The Art of Writing Music: A Practical Book for Composers and Arrangers (1993), his memoir he co-wrote with his wife Bonnie Becker Cacavas,
It's More Than Do-Re-Mi: My Life in Music (2003), and the novel
A Song for Lynbidium (2007).

This collection consists of the papers and recordings of American conductor and composer John Cacavas (1930-2014). This includes
audio and video recordings, as well as sheet music for many compositions and personal papers.
