Abstract:
The John Schneider radio broadcasting collection consists of materials pertaining to the history of radio broadcasting in the 20th century. This collection is made up of 13 boxes of radio station publications, photographs, log books, scrapbooks, correspondence, radio scripts, pamphlets and other radio materials. Schneider was the collector of this material and used this to write various histories of radio broadcasting.

Background

Scope and content:

The John Schneider radio broadcasting collection consists of 13 boxes of materials pertaining to radio broadcasting from 1920-2007, with the bulk of the materials from the 1920s-1960s. A majority of the collection consists of photographs and publications released by radio stations from all over the United States along with log books, scrapbooks, correspondence, radio scripts, pamphlets and other radio materials.

Biographical / historical:

John Schneider is a radio historian and a part of the California Historical Radio Society. He has written two books "Bay Area Radio" in 2012 and "Seattle Radio" in 2013.He spent his career collecting various photographs and publication regarding radio broadcasting.

Custodial history:

This collection forms part of the American Radio Archives (ARA), which documents the early history of broadcasting, with an emphasis on California. The ARA was formerly housed at the Thousand Oaks Public Library and was owned and administered by the Thousand Oaks Library Foundation. It was transferred to the UCSB Library in 2021.
