There is related information on the Affiliated BigMen's Clubs (A.B.C.) and NAAFA, the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance.
- Biographical / historical:
-
"The Girth and Mirth Club of San Francisco was founded in 1976 and is incorporated by the State of California as a non-profit organization. Its purpose is to establish a forum where gay, chubby men and their admirers can meet. It also provides support for its members by promoting personal and social acceptance of fat men and those who prefer their company. We function on the premise that itβs okay to be fat or to like fat men and want to educate the public to this end. Girth and Mirth is a socially based group finding ways to meet the challenges faced by being fat or admiring fat men in the thin, gay community." (Quoted from the group's "Invitation to Learn about the Girth & Mirth Club of San Francisco.")
