This collection contains issues of Ang Katipunan, (later titled Katipunan) the bi-weekly newspaper of the Katipunan ng mga Demokratikong Pilipino (KDP), also known as the Union of Democratic Filipinos; and issues of Kalayaan International, a monthly publication created by the Kalayaan Collective.
Ang Katipunan and Kalayaan International focused on topics related to issues surrounding the Ferdinand Marcos dictatorship in the Philippines, racism, democratic nationalism in the Philippines, and social justic issues in the United States.

The Union of Democratic Filipinos or Katipunan ng Demokratikong Pilipino(KDP) was founded in 1973 by Filipino Americans and immigrants who were interested in social justice issues; democratic nationalism in the Phillipines; and anti-imperalist, anti-war, and anti-racism issues; as well as martial law and the opposition of Ferdinand Marcos' dictatorship in the Phillipines. The KDP disbanded in 1986.
