Lin Sen 林森 (1868-1943) was a Chinese statesman and political leader who served as the Chairman of the National Government of the Republic of China from 1931 until his death in 1943. Collection includes wood-cover fan-fold books featuring Lin Sen's personal paintings and calligraphy, carved name stamps, loose calligraphy and paintings by Lin Sen, and his personal diary from 1939 and 1940.

Background

Scope and content:

Collection includes wood-cover fan-fold books featuring Lin Sen's personal paintings and calligraphy, carved name stamps, loose calligraphy and paintings by Lin Sen, and his personal diary from 1939 and 1940. It also contains Lin Sen's will, estate planning and administration documents (1939-1943), artifacts collected by Lin Sen, family correspondence, photographs from various stages of his life, newspaper clippings, and the original manuscript of the Lin Sen biography authored by his niece, Lin Xiang.

Biographical / historical:

Lin Sen 林森 (1868-1943) was a Chinese statesman and political leader who served as the Chairman of the National Government of the Republic of China from 1931 until his death in 1943. A member of the Kuomintang (KMT), Lin played a key role in the early revolutionary movement against the Qing Dynasty and was an advocate and follower of Sun Yat-sen. Lin's tenure as Chairman coincided with the Second Sino-Japanese War.
