Tang Hon Cheung 鄧漢章, 1892-1977, was born in Hulong Dalou Cun, Taishan, near Kaiping, Guangdong, China. He immigrated to the United States in 1924, initially leaving his first wife and two children in China. Tang settled in Phoenix, Arizona, where he joined a small community of Chinese immigrants, many of whom were also from Taishan. There, he established a grocery business. Following the death of his first wife, Tang temporarily returned to China and married his second wife, Soo Hoo Shee (司徒玉美, also known as Mae Tang). In the early 1940s, Tang and Soo Hoo supported Chinese Nationalist pilots, popularly known as the "Thunder Tigers", who trained at Luke and Williams Airfields near Phoenix and Tucson during World War II. In 1953, Tang and his family relocated to San Francisco, California, where they became active volunteers in the Chinese American community. Tang was naturalized as a United States citizen in 1973. He passed away in 1977, and Soo Hoo passed away in 1968.
