Scope and content:

President Taylor (passenger vessel) deck logbooks consists of nine volumes and one other item.

Volumes 1 and 4 concern voyages between Boston, Massachusetts and Honolulu, stopping in New York, Balboa, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Cristobal. W.S. Tyrell was a captain for the American President Lines. Volume 1 also contains a report of search. Volume 4 includes a letter to local inspectors from the captain regarding a collision between the PRESIDENT TAYLOR and the schooner PATAGONIA. Volumes 2 and 3 record voyages between Honolulu, Manila and Singapore also under W.S. Tyrell. Volume 3 contains two reports. Volumes 5 and 6 are for voyages between San Francisco and Honolulu under Captain A.W. Aitken. Volume 5 mentions blackouts, tanks and a naval submarine lookout. Volume 6 notes the birth of a baby boy at sea and a patrol bomber circling the convoy. Volumes 7, 8 and 9 are for voyages between San Francisco and Canton. In volume 8, the captain is Albert L. Herre. Volume 7 mentions the confinement of one ABS for mental illness and contains a report of engine room damages and other documents. This collection is available for use without restriction.
