This collection comprises photographs (contact sheets, portraits, snapshots, slides, negatives), clippings, notes, and biographical and personal items from the life of Alice Denham (1927-2016). While the bulk of the collection dates from the 1950s through the 1960s, early personal and family photographs date as far back as 1895. Photographs include snapshots, as well as prints and slides from Denham's modeling and advertising portfolios. Material also includes a personal calendar, modeling and writing ledgers, bookings, brochures and teaching schedules, as well as clippings, scrapbooks, and costume lingerie.

Alice Denham (1927-2016), author, adjunct professor of English at the City University of New York, and model, was born in Jacksonville, Fla. She graduated from the University of North Carolina (B.A., 1949) and the University of Rochester (M.A., 1950). Denham moved to New York City where she modeled for advertisements and industrial shows, camera clubs, and for romance and detective magazines, paperback covers, comic strips, and movie posters. She was Playboy magazine's Playmate of the Month for the July 1956 issue. Denham published numerous novels, articles, television and movie adaptations, and short stories, among them "The Deal," first published in 1955 and again in 1956 in Playboy Magazine, and filmed in 1988. Her first novel, My Darling from the Lions, was published in 1967. Other works include Amo (1974), Secrets of San Miguel (2013), and her memoir Sleeping with Bad Boys: A Juicy Tell-All of Literary New York in the Fifties and Sixties (2006). An actress, Denham is known for her performances in Olga's House of Shame (1964), She Should Have Stayed in Bed (1963) and Olga's Girls (1964). Denham died in 2016, at the age of 89.
