- Biographical / historical:

Bronisław Sokołowski was an officer in the 2nd Polish Corps during World War II. At the outbreak of the war, he was a junior officer and a high school geography teacher. Sokołowski and his family were eventually deported to Siberia, where he spent five months in an NKVD prison. After his release, he joined General Anders' 2nd Corps at a camp in Guzar, Uzbekistan, in early 1942. He received training in Iran, Iraq, and Palestine before being deployed to Italy as a firing officer and artillery observation officer. He participated in significant battles, including the Battle of Monte Cassino. After the war, Sokołowski worked as a teacher in England before immigrating to Canada.
