The collection contains records from the Sacramento City Police Court dating from 1857 to 1938, including case files, trial judgments, registers of daily proceedings, and financial records.

Biographical / historical:

The City of Sacramento Police Court mostly handled lower-level criminal offenses that were punishable by smaller monetary fines or shorter prison sentences in the county jail. The Police Court's duties were absorbed into the Sacramento Municipal Court by a city charter amendment in 1941.
