Background

Scope and content:

The first series contains manuals (the majority of those are for different models of aircraft), reports, directories, newsletters, publications and photographs related to the Lockheed Corporation. Many of the manuals are published by the Curtiss-Wright Corporation and the Wright Company. There are photographs of: Harvey C. Christen, Amelia Earhart, Clarence L. Johnson and the Lockheed Baseball team among others. There are also three photograph albums mostly containing photographs of various aircraft and Lockheed employees; these also contain photographs of Charles Lindbergh, Jimmy Doolittle and other pilots.

The second series contains documents, meeting minutes, journals, magazines, newspaper clippings, and photographs all related to three organizations: Aero Club, National Aeronautic Association and International Aeronautic Federation (FAI). The series also contains information about membership, award ceremonies, conferences and other events (such as the Gordon Bennett Balloon Race). There are magazines and publications related to several topics including: aviation, ballooning, parachuting and sport aerobatics.

The third series includes VHS tapes and audiocassettes related mostly to the Lockheed Corporation. There are also several volumes of books, the majority of which deal with aviation (some of which came from Lockheed). There are six objects including two awards.

Much of the collection was previously owned by various individuals: Violet Ritz-Rigby, former president of the Aero Club of Southern California and member of the FAI Public Relations Committee; Carol L. Osborne, aviation collector; and Ed Lund and Ann Voigt, Lockheed employees.

Collection is arranged in the following manner: Lockheed Corporation (Boxes 1-36); Aero Club and National Aeronautic Association (Boxes 37-40); and Audiovisual, Objects and Printed Books (Boxes 41-46).
