Correspondence, speeches and writings, memoranda, reports, studies, printed matter, photographs, phonotapes, videotapes, art, and memorabilia relating to American domestic policy and foreign relations, especially during the presidential administrations of Richard M. Nixon and Ronald Reagan. Included are materials from his years in academia at the University of Chicago and at Stanford University, his work as an executive and a director at Bechtel Corporation, and the numerous projects and initiatives Shultz launched as Thomas W. and Susan B. Ford Distinguished Fellow at the Hoover Institution.

Correspondence, speeches and writings, memoranda, reports, reflections, studies, printed matter, photographs, phonotapes, videotapes, digital media, art, and memorabilia relating to American domestic policy and foreign relations, especially during the presidential administrations of Richard M. Nixon and Ronald Reagan.

Shultz's papers also contain materials from his family life, his service in the Marines, and his years in academia at the University of Chicago and at Stanford University. Materials from his work at Bechtel Corporation, and the numerous projects and initiatives Shultz launched as Thomas W. and Susan B. Ford Distinguished Fellow at the Hoover Institution are also included in this collection.

The majority of the collection is open for research except for boxes 543-933, 1001-1002, 1063-1067, 1101-1103, 1105, 1108, 1171-1173, 1175-1178, 1208-1209, 1218, 1258-1269, 1281-1282, 1330-1339, 1342-1343, 1345-1350, 1390-1398, 1402, 1423, 1450-1455, 1479-1481, 1517-1537, 1571-1578, 1581-1582, 1599-1601, 1615-1616, 1624, 1630-1643, 1673-1681, 1760-1781, 1812, 1822-1824, 1829, 1860-1864, 1872-1876, 1901-1903, 1931-1932, 1935-1951, 2055-2062, and 2183-2184. Box 754 and art rack items may not be used without the permission of the Archivist.

Materials must be requested in advance via our reservation system. If there are audiovisual or digital media material in the collection, they must be reformatted before providing access.
