The collection includes an unbound 13" x 18" scrapbook containing 35 newspaper cartoon clippings from the San Francisco Examiner Newspaper dated 1928-1930, 6 personal letters from Al Bergren to Mary Ann Cotton dated April 1926-June 1927, 10 sketches (color and black and white) of people including cartoonist James C. Swinnerton and 4 enlarged cartoons including one of President Herbert Hoover.
- Biographical / historical:

Albert Leonard Bergren (March 25, 1909-May 26, 1991) was born in New York and died in Santa Clara, CA. He was an artist employed by the San Francisco Examiner newspaper who created sports and other cartoons for the Examiner. The U.S. Census of 1930 shows Bergren unmarried and living in San Francisco with two other San Francisco Examiner artists and a reporter. Letters between Bergren and Cotton document their friendship from 1926-1927.

- The collection was donated to Monterey Peninsula College Library, Archives and Special Collections Department prior to 2012. Donor is unknown.
