Background

Scope and content:

This collection comprises U-Matic and Betacam videotapes containing airchecks (newscasts) and raw news footage (individual stories) created for broadcast by the Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, and Ventura Bureau offices of KEYT-TV, from 1982 to 2010. News footage contains local, regional, and national stories. Local and regional daily news footage includes both Santa Barbara (1982-1995), and Santa Maria (1994-1995).

The collection also contains news magazine programs, such as "Key Issues" (1985-1986), and "101" (1986-1991), and sports coverage, both national and local. Local sports coverage includes "The Friday Football Focus" (FFF).

The news magazines "Key Issues" (1985-1986) and "101" (1986-1991) contain complete broadcast episodes covering events and topics important to the Central Coast. Sports material includes the local "Friday Football Focus" (1990-1996), national and local sports (1990-1995), and UCSB Sports (1990-1994). Also included are "Subject Files" (1980-1995) which are compilation tapes created by the station to hold content related to a specific "Subject" and organized alphabetically by the subject of their contents (e.g., "F" for fire).

Processing information:

The KEYT news film collection, (FMST 7) Department of Special Research Collections, UC Santa Barbara Library, is an unprocessed collection containing 16mm news film dating from the early 1960s through approximately 1981. It is currently closed to researchers. Not included in this collection are materials created by KEYT sister station KCOY in Santa Maria or materials created by KEYT before 1982 or after 1995. Post-1995 materials shot on Betacam or Digital Video remain with the station.

The materials have been divided into the following series/subseries, based on the type of programming and content:
