    Scope and Contents

    This collection contains the production and research files associated with the California Research Institute on Communist Strategy and Propaganda's television program Communism: myth vs reality (1962). The Production files include draft scripts for episodes of the 38-part television program, while the research files contain clippings, manuscripts, biographies and general research for the program as compiled by the Institute's director Rodger Swearingen.

    Biographical / Historical

    The Research Institute on Communist Strategy and Propaganda was created in the fall of 1961 and was part of USC's von KleidSmid Center for International and Public Affairs. The Institute's director, Dr. Rodger Swearingen also served as the host for the television program, Communism: myth vs reality (1962). The program was aired by CBS-KNXT Hollywood.
    According to the 1968-1969 informational pamphlet found in box 3: The Research Institute on Communist Strategy and Propaganda is dedicated to an academic, objective, and professional analysis of Sino-Soviet affairs and comparative World Communism with special reference to the questions of doctrine, strategy, and propaganda.
