Biographical / historical:

Charles George Dawley (1879-1918) was a graduate of the USC College of Medicine (class of 1903) and a physician at St. Vincent's Hospital in the early years of the 20th century, when it was located at Sunset and Beaudry. Charles married Minnie Martin (1881-1959), a graduate of the St. Vincent College of Nursing (class of 1907), in 1909. One of Charles Dawley's medical achievements is described in a Los Angeles Times article by Cecilia Rasmussen, which is included in the collection. Rasmussen's article describes Dawley's successful reconstructive surgeries and skin grafts for a patient named Elizabeth Kummer, who emigrated from Germany to Los Angeles circa 1910. Minnie Dawley continued her nursing career after Charles Dawley's passing in 1918. Mary Dawley (1911-2005), the daughter of Charles and Minnie, was a graduate of UCLA, a radio and theater performer, and an Executive Secretary at Buckeye Construction in Beverly Hills.
