The bulk of the collection contains clippings, agendas, member lists, mail, and founding documents from the Gay/Lesbian Parent Teacher Student Association (GLPTSA) in Seattle, Washington, from GLPTSA co-founder Susan Carmel. Materials in the collection date from 1995-2002, and also include materials documenting Seattle-based chapters of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, or PFLAG.

Scope and content:

The bulk of collection contains clippings, agendas, member lists, mail, and founding documents from the Gay/Lesbian Parent Teacher Student Association (GLPTSA), 1999-2000, from GLPTSA co-founder Susan Carmel. There are also matted photographs, notes, and ephemera from Carmel's work with the Parent, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) and other organizations in the Seattle, Washington area. The collection further contains a scrapbook with correspondence, fliers, and clippings, 1995-1998.

Biographical / historical:

Susan Carmel was the co-founder and former president of the Gay/Lesbian Parent Teacher Student Association in Seattle, Washington. She was also an active member of PFLAG and Safe Schools Coalition, advocating for anti-discrimination in schools and anti-bullying issues.
