Independence Day is an American science fiction film, released in July of 1996, written by Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, directed by Roland Emmerich, and starring Will Smith, Bill Pullman, and Jeff Goldblum. The film depicts an extraterrestrial invasion of the Earth, and the ensuing efforts to stop the planet's destruction.
