The Dispersed Art Collection records consist of files created to support the effort of the University Office of Business Services in fulfillment of its mission to document and care for the so-called "dispersed art collections" of the University. Although there was continually some back and forth with organized campus art / artifact collections, these files mostly deal with art objects that were not otherwise controlled by an organized campus art institution.
Most of the files were evidently created and arranged around 1978-79 by Marcelle Baxter, Financial and Business Services, who was charged with executing an inventory. However, much of the material goes back to the arrival of the relevant art work on campus, and was kept by various university clerks and business officers, under the auspices of university presidents/chancellors. The oldest items date from around the time of the donation of the Bacon Art Collection in the 1880s, but most of the files focus on the period circa 1920-80. The final date seems to be a BETS (tracking system) computer print-out from 2006.

- The Dispersed Art Collection records were transferred to The Bancroft Library by the Office of Risk Management in 2015.
