His most notable work included in these papers are Studio One, Ford Theatre, Life With Father, Sears Radio Theater, Mutual Radio Theater, and Telescope. He is also responsible for movies like Jigsaw and The Incredible Journey.

The Fletcher Markle papers consists of 32.13 linear feet of materials, or 37 boxes, from 1935-1987 with the bulk of the material from 1944-1981. The materials in these papers consists mostly of scripts and administrative materials, but also includes ephemera, photographs, audio/visual recordings, newspaper and magazine clippings, and personal papers.

Biographical / historical:

Fletcher Markle (1921-1991) was Canadian actor, screenwriter, producer and director born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. His most notable work consists of Studio One, Ford Theatre, Life With Father, Sears Radio Theater, Mutual Radio Theater, and Telescope. He is also responsible for movies like Jigsaw and The Incredible Journey. Markle was married three times to Helen Blanche Willis (1944-1949), Mercedes McCambridge (1950-1962), and Dorothy Conradt (1963). He died at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena California.

Custodial history:

This collection forms part of the American Radio Archives (ARA), which documents the early history of broadcasting, with an emphasis on California. The ARA was formerly housed at the Thousand Oaks Public Library and was owned and administered by the Thousand Oaks Library Foundation. It was transferred to the UCSB Library in 2021.
