Scope and content:

This collection consists of materials related to Delco Systems Operations of Goleta, California, AC Spark Plug, and GM, gathered by Delco Retirees Group members. In 1962, GM created the General Motors Research Laboratories, based in Santa Barbara, California, to conduct research and development activities on defense systems. GM Motors Research Laboratories merged into Delco Electronics and was renamed Delco Systems Operations. The company was involved in developing early missile guidance systems during the Cold War, guidance systems for NASA's Apollo lunar program, and systems engineering for the Apollo Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV). Many of the items in this collection were generated from this activity.
