This collection contains 156 black and white prints of Spanish Colonial Architecture, taken by A. Bertrand Harmer in 1925, the year of the Santa Barbara earthquake. Harmer was an architect who designed many of the Spanish-style buildings in Santa Barbara.

Alexander Bertrand A.B "Bert" Harmer (1896-1967) was born in Newark, New Jersey and raised in an artistic family in Santa Barbara, California. He is known as a highly respected architect for his time and was a self-taught architectural designer whose contributions were integral to Montecito, California and surrounding areas. He specialized in the Spanish Colonial Revival style, focusing on single-story designs that blend with the California landscape, as well as later, larger projects. Notable works include the Montecito Inn, Montecito Fire Station, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
